Ripened Palouse
The green shoots of wheat and the yellow canola flowers that produced a varied patchwork in early summer have now ripened, transforming the Palouse landscape into a nearly uniform sea of gold. The rain that was plentiful in spring has largely disappeared, but occasionally the skies are filled with clouds, and these are the days when I venture out in search of photographic possibilities. Crops are now being harvested, and the rolling hills will soon be completely corduroyed with the patterns created by the residual stubble of mown wheat.

This is the fifth installment in an ongoing project to document the Palouse landscape over the course of a year. Previous projects in the series were titled Springtime in the Palouse, Palouse Contours, Panoramic Palouse, and Palouse Summer Daydreams.
Thanks for your interest. I look forward to continuing my exploration of the Palouse as summer winds down and autumn begins.
